Hearing from stakeholders -- parents, teachers and students -- is essential to having an effective organization.
Stakeholders should be given a variety of ways to share feedback throughout the school year. This could include 3 times a year satisfaction surveys.
Hearing from stakeholders is a key management function.
The board and CEO should develop an agreement on how authentic stakeholder input is collected and shared throughout the year.
And of course, there should be grievance processes so that if stakeholders feel they are not being heard they can appeal to a higher level of authority.
Standard grievance policies typically have an appeal to the board as a last resort.
With these systems in place, we recommend that teachers do not directly weigh in on the CEO Evaluation process.
Rather, teacher job satisfaction and feedback should be gathered via routine surveys throughout the year.
And, it should be used as an important data point by the board and CEO when completing their portion of the CEO Evaluation.
