Officer terms should be one year, potentially renewable three times. Typically, it takes a whole year to learn how to do the job well, and it is the hope when someone is nominated for an officer position that they will stay in that position for more than one year. The one-year terms allow the board to reassess the officers annually—particularly important with a start up board, which will be adding a substantial number of new people with additional talents during the first few years of operations.
